Christian Fiction Authors
Amanda MacLean
Promise Me the Dawn - I read my sister's copy of this book several years ago, and I remembered the book as a good one. Naturally, by the time I wanted to buy it myself, it was out of print. So I found a used copy online and purchased it. I was so excited, I couldn't wait to reread it, but when I did, I was disappointed. It wasn't nearly as good as I remembered! But I am still glad that I have my own copy. Pretty predictable, but good for those who like historical fiction. *Borrow it from the library first*
Francine Rivers - I'll go ahead and tell you now, I like everything I've read by this author and I highly recommend all of these...
And the Shofar Blew - This is Rivers' latest, as far as I know. This book really pinpoints the fact that the church can be (and is, sometimes) corrupted from within. Very honest and true to life. *Buy it*
The Atonement Child - Until I read this book, I had considered my own reaction to the kind of situation the main character of this novel encounters, but this book completely changed my mind. (And not many books influence me that way!!!) This is probably my favorite book by Rivers. Absolutely incredible. *Buy it*
The Last Sin Eater - This may be my least favorite book by Rivers. It's a completely different style of work by this author. I really had to read it more than once to get the hang of it, and I'm still not completely sure I grasped the full meaning. *Borrow it from the library*
Lineage of Grace Series
Unveiled (Tamar), Unashamed (Rahab), Unshaken (Ruth), Unspoken (Bathsheba), & Unafraid (Mary) - There are 5 novellas to this series, each one a look at the life of one woman listed in the lineage of Christ. These books each come with a study guide and are excellent for women's small group studies. I love that they highlight the imperfections of these women, since we all know that we're not perfect! It drives home the point that God can use all of us in spite of our imperfections. *Buy it*
Leota's Garden - I liked this book, but I wouldn't call it one of my favorites. Touching story of family and relationships. *Borrow it from the library*
Mark of the Lion Series
As Sure as the Dawn, An Echo in the Darkness, A Voice in the Wind- This set of 3 novels will appeal to fans of historical fiction., The first 2 tell the story of Christian persecutions in Rome, and the third tells of a new Christian taking the religion to his people. I really enjoyed these, although it took me a little longer to read them. (As a sidenote, when you read, note the similarities between the society of Rome and our present-day society. I found it interesting - and thanks to my sister for pointing that out to me when she recommended the books.) *Buy it*
Redeeming Love - This book has an interesting history. Rivers was originally a romance novelist, and she "redeemed" this previous work for Christian fiction. It's a really great book, and again, historical fiction fans will approve since it's set in gold-rush California. This is my second-favorite Rivers' novel. *Buy it*
The Scarlet Thread - This book switches back and forth between a present-day story and a diary from the 1800s. I'll be honest...when I reread this book, I typically read the modern story and skip the diary sections. But I really enjoy the book, whether I read the entire thing or just skip through it. *Buy it*
